It is well documented that many people fail to achieve their goals in life due to the phenomenon known as “fear of failure” but are you aware that a major factor that is often overlooked, is a state known as “fear of success”?

Fear of failure will lead many people into inertia – the inability to make decision or take action in case they receive rejection or negative outcomes. This mental state is fairky easy to identify and there are many tools in the personal development industry to help combat this plague and reprogram the mind for success. However, the fear of success is much more subtle, harder to spot and also harder to eradicate.

Perhaps you have this tendency in your life. Here are some indications of a fear of success mentality.

Studying and trying to implement self-improvement techniques and/or personal development tools but your life does not improve or may even get worse.

You settle for less than you feel you deserve or are capable of achieving.

You start new projects full of enthusiasm and optimism but wane in your efforts or stop short before you have completed them.

You expect things to go wrong no matter how well the situation appears to be at the moment.

Can you identify your own patterns in the any of the above statements?

The fear of success can also make you behave in ways that hold you back. Look at the list below. These are ethe symptoms of the fear of success.

Procrastination – putting off what needs to be done or not doing what you know will bring you closer to your desired result. Everyone suffers from this inner ‘demon’ at some point in their lives (although some of us suffer from it more than others!).

Procrastination is a ’success killer’! How can ou expect to reach your destinationm if you do not take steps towards it? Strive to do little things each day that will bring you small steps closer to your goal. This is why having a personal development plan is an essential ingredient in the fight against procrastination. Take action! Any action! Refine your steps as you go along but do not sit and do nothing. Taking action is one of the key aspects in personal development.

Can’t see the forest for the trees! – this is almost the opposite of procrastination but has the same effect on your personal development. The aforementioned saying is well known but have you ever given it real consideration?

Don’t get caught up in your plan believing that it is more important than the materialised goal! For many years I got caught in this trap. I started to think and act as though my plan was more important than my end result and thus missed many opportunities to alter my path and reach my goals more quickly! Let go of your ego and allow the Universe to show you a quicker route to your goal. Remain flexible.

Thinking that the time is not right – have you ever waited until the timing was perfect before starting a venture? Have you ever waited until you had more information on a better plan?

Again ACTION is the key to the door to success. Taking small steps forward are better than taking none or waiting to see if your foot is landing on the right spot! Even if your actions take you away from your goal you have at least gained insight and knowledge about what does not work!

Being a perfectionist – this is similar to the point above and has the same effect, namely, that you never really move forward. No matter how good a job is when its finished it can always be improved! I have heard many great musicians tell how they hate listening to their own songs because they can find a million things that need improved. Yet, we still enjoy them. I think a classic example of this is “Bridge Over Troubled Water” by Paul Simon. This song is hauntingly beautiful yet Mr. Simon does not think its good enough!

Seeing only problems – how do you use your focus? Do you constantly see only and alll the problems involved? If you are this way inclined it is pointless trying to change overnight! However, you can use this mindset to your advantage while you strive in your personal development to acquire an opportunistic frame of mind instead.

“How can you use seeing only problems to my advantage?” you say. “Easily”, is my reply! Look at the problems and prepare a plan to deal with them. Everytime you overcome one congratulate yourself. Use them as a gauge for your achievements. If you keep seeing more problems remind yourself of how well you dealt with the others. Look at how far you have come! If you see a problem ask yourself, “how best can I overcome this challenge?” or “how quickly can I rectify this situation?”. The quality of your questions are important as I have outlined in a previous article. Use the problems as fact finders. Is there a real problem now? If so then deal with it. Is it a potential problem? If so then create a contingency plan in case it does occur but don’t get caught up in it just be prepared.

Enjoy the journey, follow the above guidelines and you will achieve success. Eventually your fear of success will dissipate and you will have moved a long way forward in your personal development.

Are you currently struggling to reach your objectives? Do you have everything in life that you desire? Is it easy for you to reach your goals after every success? Your mind has two parts, the conscious thinking logical part and the unconscious part. Your conscious mind is that part of your mind you are using right now to read and analyse this words. However it is the subconscious part of your mind that is interpreting the symbols on the page and telling you what they represent. This part of your mind is more powerful than you can imagine and is capable of helping you in ways that seem miraculous at times.

Everything that has ever ocurred in your life is stored somewhere in the subconscious part of your mind. It is literally an unlimited warehouse for memories and emotions. This is an extremely important aspect of the subconscious mind. You need to have instant access to this stored information so that you can find your way home, remember names and faces, how to do your job etc., it does have major disadvantages!

Not only does your subconscious mind store valuable information it also stores essential emotions. For example it stores the emotion of pain and fear connected to certain activities such as placing your hand too close to fire. When you find yourself getting too close to fire and feel the heat on your skin your subconscious mind will immediately alert you with a feeling of fear. This mechanism is designed to keep you safe and works very effectively. It also works to your advantage by replaying positive emotions connected to certain situations – think of a time when you caught a glimpse of your spouse or child, heard a piece of music or smelt some perfume or aftershave and were immediately reminded of an earlier time that evoked strong loving emotions.

Therefore, we can view your subconscious mind as acting, in its simplest role, as a recording and playback mechanism – a bit like a fully interactive video recorder. The things that occur to you in your life are recorded and then played back when you access those memories. The problem that often arises though is when incorrect or inappropriate emotional memories are accessed by the subconscious mind when you find yourself in new situations. If your subconscious mind has been “programmed” with negative emotions or a negative self-image then these are the things it will play back to you when you try something new or reach out past your comfort zone.

There is another problem with this mechanism that is rarely addressed by the self improvement industry and hypnosis communities when they seek to change this negative subconscious programming. Although they will admit that the subconscious mind is mostly a playback system of past events, they rely too heavily on the reprogramming of this mind with positive beliefs and do not address the other, just as important, issue.

If the subconscious mind is just a playback device, and it replays past emotions in new situations, then it is obvious we need to ensure it is playing back positive supportive emotions and thoughts when we undertake any new venture. But what about the other problem? How do we address that?

Well the problem is this; if the subconscious mind is a playback device and we want to do something new how can it help us do it when it has no knowledge of what it is doing? Let me explain.

You set a goal to make $2,000 per week. You set about writing your goal and affirming your intentions, visualizing, using self hypnosis, and a myriad of other techniques, to reprogram your mind for success. However, you are only doing half the job, albeit a very important half but only half all the same!

If the subconscious mind is merely a playback mechanism and you set an intention to create something you have never created before it will merely playback everything you know about that subject – which is probably very little! Let’s look at our financial example again.

You want to make $2,000 per week yet you have only ever made $400 per week. You use your self improvement techniques daily and quickly reprogram your mind for success thinking. Now you find yourself full of confidence and enthusiasm for your objectives. Great! You are in the right mind-set for success. The problem arises when you begin to think about making the extra money. When you quiz yourself about how you can actually go about doing that your subconscious mind will play back everything it knows about how to make money. You will probably immediately think that you need to get a higher paying job, work more hours, take on an extra job etc.

Although you have successfully programmed your mind for success your mind does not yet have the knowledge or experience of how it can actually go about creating the success you desire!

There are two ways to overcome this problem. The first is to acquaint yourself with as much knowledge as you can about making money. This is a great thing to do. You can study the lives of people who started in similar situations to you and increased their net worth and determine if their way of doing it would suite you. I highly recommend this approach even if you find it easy to reach your new goal with your new positive outlook.

However, there is another way. It is easier and faster and always works. As well as programming yourself for success you must deprogram your old negative beliefs and, (here is the key) your limiting programming!

When you remove your self-imposed limitations – i.e. I have to work extra hours, take a second job, get a higher paying job etc., to increase my earnings – you will find inspiration coming to you. You don’t have to reprogram these limiting beliefs with new ones all you have to do is deprogram them and let your mind do the rest!

As your subconscious mind is no longer replaying everything it knows about making money it must seek new answers from somewhere else! As you deprogram your limiting beliefs and emotions you will become more aware of the possibilities that are all around you. Your intuition will be more accessible to you and you will find yourself almost effortlessly drifting into new, exciting and highly profitable opportunities.

Deprogramming your limiting beliefs is much easier than you think and the results you experience will be many thousands of times greater than if you just concentrate on creating new beliefs through traditional personal development techniques! Try it, you may just be surprised.

Everyone has a dream in the life whether it be to achieve a certain status or do certain things however the vast majority of people simply talk the talk but do not take the steps to actually reach their potential. A realisation needs to be made where you understand that goal setting really is a very important process which provides a destination made up from your wants, needs and aspirations.

One of the most common reasons for goal setting is to allow more effective use of time or resources, self motivation, short or long term gratification and simply to build your self confidence.

In order to get started within your goal setting you will have to take a very good look at your life in order to realise your ultimate goal. You really will have to take a step back in order to think about your ultimate goal properly in order to wor out the short term goals that will assist you in reaching your ultimate goal.

It is important to remember that once you have figured out your long term ultimate goal you will then be required to full concentrate and focus on your short term goals as these are the steps that will take you to your ultimate destination. If you do this you will begin to shape each area of your life.

Some of the areas of your life that you will begin to shape are areas such as continuous learning, your professional career, family, spiritual, financial matters, health and overall you will get your life into perspective.

All of the above areas are crucial in making yourself or your life balanced and well-rounded. When you have achieved the above short term goals you will then be ready for your ultimate goal which is your destination in life providing an amazing journey for you along the way. Therefore simply make goals that you really want to achieve and remember this process is your own personal development.

The best way to set your short term goals is to set the goals with a time frame in mind of when you aim to have achieved the goal and of course constantly review your progress. You may also find that weekly goals and daily goals will also become a very important part of your life. You can also use checklists in order to ensure that you are working your way through the goal setting process and whenever you have completed a task you will simply cross it out leaving you will a great deal of satisfaction that it is completed.

Whilst working your way through the goal setting and personal development process you will have to keep your momentum and stay on track. It is for this reason that it is important that you consistently stay on top and check your goals to ensure that you are not falling behind. Assessment of your goals from time to time will allow you to see if anything has changed in your long term goals therefore allowing you to rearrange a little if needed.

In order to ensure your success where you stay on track for your goals you will have to remain specific with the level of time allocated to your goals so that you know when you have achieved them and this will keep you motivated. Being positive is very important when you are determining your goals which means you must stay clear of words such as rubbish, dumb and stupid. If you are going to achieve a goal then it has to be attainable which means breaking your goals down into manageable pieces in order for you to see that you are getting somewhere.

Lastly you need to prioritize your goals, write them down constantly to keep you reminded of your progress. Always remember goal setting will always be an important aspect of your life, if you do not have goals then you will not achieve anything.

Hello Fellow Entrepreneurs,

Just recently I have been thinking back over all the years looking at the changes and sacrifices I had to make in order to fully achieve the level of success that I now have and when doing this one of the questions I asked myself was what did I change and why.

The answer that came to mind was quite simply I had changed myself and my mindset which was always my way of thinking, I went from having a glass that was half empty to having a glass have full and this empowered me with the power of positive thinking.

Why did I make the change?

Some 9 years ago I was a double glazing salesman within the home improvement marketplace where I was responsible for visiting customers in their homes via pre arranged appointments which would last approximately three to four hours and would consist of a very strict sales process designed to leave the prospect with only one objection at the end which would be affordability.

Now when I first started in this position back in May 2001 I was 18 years old and rather immature to say the least, I used to look around at the other salesmen and when the manager would give anyone of them an appointment with a prospect they would be extremely excited and positive, bursting with enthusiasm to achieve the sale and that would be their mind focused but when the manager gave me an appointment I could not care less and would only go to that appointment because I had too.

What was the effect of this?

Well given my attitude and lack of excitement every prospect I was sat down with could sense that along with my lack of belief in what I was there to do, products I was promoting therefore as I didn’t believe in them neither did the customer therefore no sale was achieved and this went on for some four months.

Four months later I happened to be speaking with the sales manager and wondering where I was going wrong however due to my mindset I did not see anything wrong, at this point my manager asked me the following simple question and it was at this point I knew that I had to change and open my mind to possibility and desire.

Are you going to roll over and let yourself get beat or do you have enough pride to fight back and make it happen we can all find reasons outside our control for not doing things thus making it not our fault or we can just get on and make things happen, always remember winners make it happen regardless of obstacles, losers let it happen but have always got a reason which is outside their control and which one are you?

First we need people! This is a people business so YOU MUST TALK to people, you have to face the facts if you have no one to talk to then you need to LOOK for people!

If you are NOT prepared to talk to people then you need to get OUT of networking OR, If you are afraid or shy, then you need to buy a book on CONFIDENCE. I can assure you that we all lack confidence at some time of our life or in something that we do. & you know what? The ONLY way to conquer fear is to FACE the fear you fear & DO IT!

4. Put out 100 drop cards that advertise your business per day.

5. Carry opportunity cards & or leaflets with you at ALL times and give them to EVERY person you meet on a daily basis.

6. Use the 3 foot rule. Speak to EVERY person who comes within 3 foot of you about the business etc.

7. Put 2 ads per day in shop windows, notice boards, super market boards, anywhere where people are waiting. i.e. Dr’s surgery’s, library’s etc. etc.

8. Send out 20 BOUNCE BACK e-mails per DAY! If you don’t know what this is, then ask your upline.

9. Subscribe to 5 other business opportunity newsletters; so that you can then e-mail them back your opportunity.

10. Call you’re uplines to touch base, do 3 ways etc.

11. Seek regular and consistent training from your upline.

12. READ 5 PAGES of a book on Network Marketing & or Personal Development.

13. Listen to an audio CD or tape on Personal Development or MLM. (If you drive to work then listen in the car!)

14. Put 5 ads per day out on free ad web sites.

See that?

YES, it takes hard work, but the rewards are more than worth it!

If you feel the above is too little or too much for you then set your own target.

Imagine if you did 5 times the above? Then you would build your business 5 times FASTER than those that do the above!
