And you have the best online shopping cart service out there so that you customers can buy from you with no hassles and next day shipping. That&#8217;s great! Now where are your customers? </p>
<p>Driving traffic to your website is a much discussed and much misunderstood venture. There are a million theories out there that claim to drive tons of new visitors to your site daily. There are services that say they will increase your traffic by an enormous percentage if you will only pay them their small fee over a period of fifty years. There are so-called experts who will place your pages on all the best search engines on the net. They claim that with this kind of blanket exposure, your traffic numbers will explode within days. </p>
<p>But the only sure-fire way to draw productive traffic to your website is through targeted marketing. The important word to notice here is &#8220;productive.&#8221; You can draw hundreds of thousands of visitors to your site every year by hosting a giveaway of some kind. Services that search the internet for freebies will have people clicking a link to your site like crazy. But these people are not there to buy anything from you &#8230; quite the opposite. They are empty clicks. There is nothing productive about this kind of traffic. People looking for free stuff will rarely make you any kind of money. And that&#8217;s what you&#8217;re after, right? </p>
<p>So target your marketing to the people who really want to buy what you have to offer. How? Start by trying these basic steps&#8230; </p>
<p>* Hire an experienced copywriter. The copy that is on your site makes a world of difference in the sales you garner from the internet. Most important to targeted marketing are the keywords found in your title and the metatags in the website&#8217;s code. An experienced copywriter will know how to determine the most effective keywords and place them strategically in your site&#8217;s copy. If you cannot afford a copywriter, do some research and talk to your web designer about inserting metatags. </p>
<p>* You can enroll in pay per click search engines. Obviously, google.com is one of these, but most of the most popular keywords are already taken. <p>Discipline is important. Without this, nothing will get done or will get written. Having discipline causes any writer, especially those who write articles for the internet, to think clearly and go beyond his or her mundane concerns. When one has discipline, the focus is on the output and not on the ego.</p>
<p>Discipline serves as a guide</p>
<p>Having discipline enables anyone to think in a lucid manner. It also helps in coming up of ways to present the details and facts of an article. A disciplined mind gets things done easily.</p>
<p>Using a guide in numbering the characters that should be present on each line of a given article is an easy and controlled way to limit as well as define what it is to write about and how.</p>
<p>Observe how doing this and setting a limit to one’s self actually helps the writer compose the article thereby avoiding awkward breaks in each sentence. When this is done, readability of the article is achieved as well as the topic at hand becomes a whole lot clearer.</p>
<p>Discipline helps achieve focus</p>
<p>There are a million things to write about as well as there are a million things to say. Having discipline makes it a lot easier to select a particular idea or subject. A general issue could still be broken down in sub topics and start from there.</p>
<p>The words to be used for such an article must also be appropriate to the kind of reader targeted. Once this is decided upon, selecting the appropriate mood, be it serious, funny, etc. would be a lot easier.</p>

<p>If it is simply too overwhelming to write an article in one get up and go fashion, the only solution is – don’t write it.</p>
<p>Discipline yourself to think of the article in easy and convenient small chunks. Take each idea as one paragraph. Then think of another idea in terms of another paragraph. Then, make a simple outline of the article as well as the issues and topics that will cover it.</p>
<p>Discipline yourself to just let go</p>
<p>Writing is a process. It is best that writing be not forced. Such an attitude produces an article that is stiff, unreadable and – most likely – unlikable.</p>
<p>Discipline yourself to just write<br />
A lot of things could crop up inside one’s head about the article one is intending to write.</p>
<p>It is easy to be distracted about other topics that could be included in the article, or other issues, as well as other subtopics.</p>
<p>It is best that one should just stick to the current topic at hand. Topics or issues that are off the main points must be avoided.</p>
<p>Remember that the objective is to write, complete and finish the article. Entertaining any and all forms of distractions will not be helpful.</p>
<p>Be disciplined to not edit &#8212; at least not yet</p>
<p>In any first drafts, the key to writing completely is to let the ideas just flow. Editing must and will have to come at a later part. Editing is not part of the writing process, at least in this stage where thoughts really just have to flow, so let it.</p>
<p>Be disciplined to re-read and review the article</p>
<p>After the writing is complete, this is the perfect and best time to start reading it as well as reviewing it. First time drafts must be proofread. This is also the best time to start editing.</p>
<p>Check and find out which parts seem to lag. Is there any weak idea that needs backing up? Are there no spelling errors in the article? Are there any errors in grammar? Such mistakes must be paid attention to as it could distract the readers from the idea and point of the article.</p>
<p>Discipline yourself to relax</p>
<p>After writing, let the article stand or sit on its own. Get up and eat, sleep, read, watch television or simply get out.</p>
<p>Make sure that you spend at least a day letting the article breath.</p>
<p>Discipline yourself to re-write<br />
Getting back to the article after a considerable amount of time away from it enables anyone to look at it with fresh eyes.</p>
<p>Check the title. Review if the sentences are complete thoughts. Delete or re-write what needs to be edted or re-written.</p>
<p>Well-written articles should be satisfying and not leave readers wanting to have more.</p>
<p>Discipline yourself to make the article known</p>
<p>After all is said, written and done, it is now time to send the article out. Readers should be appropriately advised where the article came from, who wrote it or if there is any link related to the article and its source.</p>
<p>In summary, discipline helps anyone, especially in writing, start and finish a task with a process that is methodical and one that actually works. All one needs is discipline to carry it through.</p>

<p>The secret isn&#8217;t some magic trick or tool. But your Internet marketing is just shooting into the dark if you don&#8217;t know the needs that lead people to buy and how to focus your copywriting to tap those needs.</p>
<p>Two main needs drive all people no matter what the demographic: 1) a desire to expand their world and become more than what they are, and 2) a desire for safety. These needs conflict: the desire to grow leads us to head out into the unknown; self-protection leads us to circle the wagons and dig in against unknown dangers.</p>
<p>Each person strikes their own balance between these two contradictory needs. Understanding the way that different personality types balance these needs is the key to effective copywriting for them.</p>
<p>Methodical Personality Type</p>
<p>The methodical personality type balances strongly toward safety. They need facts, lots of details, to assure themselves that they are making the safest, most logical choice. Make no mistake, methodical personality types decide to buy based on their emotions like everyone else, but they feel a need to back up their desire to buy with sound intellectual arguments.</p>
<p>To get them to buy, your copywriting needs to help them narrow their choices. Avoid giving them too many options. They easily get lost trying to find the best option among a series of equals.</p>
<p>One option to offer, though, is between your plain product at a cheaper price or a more expensive price with lots of additional features. Methodical thinkers are much more likely to choose the more expensive version because it reinforces their image of being a wise shopper. And it changes their decision from deciding between buying or not buying into deciding between buying a more valuable deal or a less expensive offer. But either way, their decision gives you a sale.</p>
<p>Give them solid reasons to buy and buy now. Lead them through your sales process in an easy and non-threatening way. Give them the details they need to make themselves feel that they made a rational decision. They want their purchases to be well-reasoned and risk-free, and want to see themselves as smart shoppers.</p>
<p>Competitive Personality Type</p>
<p>The competitive personality type is less averse to risk, but still needs to feel that their purchase reaffirms the way they see themselves. They, too, consider facts in making their purchase, but rely more on gut feelings of how well the purchase puts them ahead of where they were.</p>
<p>The key to copywriting for this personality type is to recognize their need to see the way they define themselves reflected in what they buy. Recognize what types of self-images your product reflects and sprinkle your sales copy with words and phrases that help your competitive types see your product reinforce their self-image.</p>
<p>Cast a wide enough net in fitting your product&#8217;s image to theirs, but don&#8217;t try to cover every possible self image or you&#8217;ll get too generic to appeal to any of them.</p>
<p>Gregarious Personality Type</p>
<p>The gregarious personality type seeks to feel connected to those around them. They are more willing to trust, more willing to venture into the unknown, but are hesitant to assume the full risk until others have proven that the path is safe. They respond especially well to copywriting that shows how your product has benefited others.</p>
<p>Catch their attention by talking about positive results that others have experienced. Testimonials of satisfied customers or pictures that show happy people enjoying your product also are important. Make sure your copywriting provides them with evidence that others have found your product worthwhile. They&#8217;ll feel more comfortable taking their own risk with it.</p>
<p>Spontaneous Personality Type</p>
<p>The spontaneous personality type is the most open to exploration. They are the trend-setters, the early adopters, who blaze the trail for everyone else. They will take risks. But not unless you offer to fill the chief need for something better, something that will let them to grow beyond what they are.</p>
<p>Surprise them. Intrigue them with the unexpected and they&#8217;ll make that leap of faith with you. Present them with the boring old status quo approach and they&#8217;ll move on to something more intriguing.</p>
<p>Understanding what drives these four different types of customers is essential to copywriting effectively for them. In copywriting, as in clothing, one size most definitely does not fit all.</p>

For instance, if you are a proctologist, you may write about hemorrhoids, their treatment, prevention and suchlike as long as these are not scientific articles, but materials written in layman&#8217;s language. To give you a more practical example, if your hobby is dogs, write about them and people will enjoy it. There is another way to get content. The web has many services offering free articles. All you have to do is select the most interesting ones and publish them. In this way you can quickly fill your blog with content.</p>
<p>Moving on to the question of promoting your blog, it is worth noting that blogs are better indexed by search engines than ordinary web sites due to the specifics of the algorithm used in blogs. For instance, a new article in a well-promoted blog may appear on the search engine results page already on the following day. Of course, this requires registration in special catalogs devoted to blogs, which is what you will do next. Another way is to publish articles with a link to your blog. <p>But most importantly, a search engine needs external links to your blog from other web sites. These should be good links generating heavy traffic. What does it mean? It means that ideally the link should be on the web site&#8217;s main page. Five or six such links will do more than hundreds of other ordinary links. How can you get such links? There are also various options. Your income increases proportionately with the traffic volume. One way to earn from a blog is to place ads, which is done most often through google adwords. E-Newsletters, done correctly, are a creative, non-aggressive method of reaching your current clients and building your prospect base at little or no cost.  They not only provide useful information to subscribers on a consistent basis but they are a valuable marketing tool that allows you to enter their lives regularly, to get your name, and products or services, in front of them without the heavy sell.  </p>
<p>The following pages contain a list of ‘must haves’ from the beginning to the end of your newsletter, and everything in between.  </p>
<p>First and foremost, your E-Newsletter must have a: </p>
<p>1.	SUBJECT LINE</p>
<p>Your newsletter’s headline, otherwise known as the subject of the e-mail, is responsible for 50-75% of its success.  Other than whom the e-mail is from, it is what your reader sees first.  Without a successful headline, your e-mail is destined for the trash can and you’ve missed a golden opportunity to reach clients and prospects with your message.  </p>
<p>Writing a good headline is tricky and something people spend years learning and practicing.  That being said, there are a few keys to a successful headline that I’d like to share with you.</p>
<p>&#9679; Appeal to your reader’s self interest.<br />
Provide a benefit to your reader and make it personal to your audience of clients and prospects.  Example:  “10 Ways To Increase Your Portfolio Earnings Overnight.”    This type of headline might work for a financial investment firm, or an accountant.  A headline can be tailored to any industry and what your readers are interested in.</p>
<p>&#9679; Make it Newsworthy<br />
Headlines using the words ‘new’, ‘now’, ‘finally’, ‘announcing’, and ‘latest’ give the reader a sense of newsworthiness.  “New Soil Conditioner Increases Plant Life By 10%.”  This headline is both newsworthy and it appeals to the reader’s self interest-assuming that the newsletter is going to clients of a nursery, florist and the like and not to an automotive repair shop!</p>
<p>&#9679; Appeal to the reader’s emotions.<br />
Fear, Pride, Insecurity, Curiosity, Love, Happiness, Boredom, Laziness, and<br />
Altruism are among many of the emotions that you can use to motivate your reader to open your newsletter.  “How To Ask Your Boss For A Raise,” would be good headline for a staffing company.  It appeals to the reader’s curiosity.  Another curiosity driven headline might be “10 Questions You Should Never Ask A Prospective Client.”  </p>
<p>One last thing to remember about Headlines: make them believable.  Nothing gets deleted faster than an outrageous and unbelievable headline. </p>
<p>2.	VOLUME NUMBER AND A DATE.</p>
<p>It may seem obvious, but one thing that is consistently overlooked in E-Newsletter publication is the volume number and date.  Every newsletter that you send should have a volume number and a date to be consistent.  Consistency is key to establishing yourself and your company as a reliable and credible source of information and the kind of company that your customers will return to time and again.  </p>
<p>Additionally, by providing a consistent publication date, and volume, you give your readers a method to archive and/or search when they’re hunting through old issues for the amazing content that you’ve supplied them.  </p>
<p>By organizing your newsletters by volume and date, you also make it easier to track each issue’s effectiveness.</p>
<p>3.	 THEME</p>
<p>Each newsletter that you put out to the world should have a consistent theme running throughout.  Regardless if you have one article or ten, they should be linked with your theme-and your theme should be referenced in the headline.  </p>
<p>A doctor’s office might run an issue with the theme of fighting the flu just before flu season.  The newsletter might contain articles pertaining to it like diet, supplementation, and inoculations etc.  Similarly, they could offer a theme on allergies in early spring.</p>
<p>A restaurant might highlight specific ingredients, time saving tips in the kitchen, or upcoming seasons and holidays.  The articles could reference menu items or recipes that they use as a marketing tie in.  </p>
<p>An Auto repair shop might address tune ups in one issue and preparing for summer vacations in the next.  They could talk about braking-how to brake, different types of brakes, when to replace brakes, common problems with brakes etc…</p>
<p>You’re getting the picture.  CPA firms, printers, transportation companies, every industry has a specific client population with specific needs and interests.  If you have a new product, how that product integrates into your customer’s lives could be a theme-say a commercial construction company provides installation of a new type of roofing&#8211;there’s the theme for the newsletter.  Themes are easy to come by; the trick is sticking to them. </p>
<p>4.	INFORMATION</p>
<p>Your newsletter must contain useful information.  Content Is Key!  Even if your newsletter contains an editorial piece, you need to give your readers something valuable.  </p>
<p>We’re a nation hungry for information.  Non-fiction consistently outsells fiction in the bookstores and ease of information is in high demand.  As far as information goes—Nothing Is Better Than Free, Helpful Information Delivered To You On A Consistent Basis!</p>
<p>According to an article recently published by the Newsletter &#038; Electronic Publishers Association www.newsletters.org  —“Publishers need high-value content to reach readers and advertisers. ……editorial quality is just as important for a free newsletter as it is for a subscription newsletter. ……advises publishers to talk with their user base at all times, survey readers and know their needs.</p>
<p>This quotation ties in to the next E-Newsletter necessity:</p>
<p>5.	An Option for Reader Feedback</p>
<p>An option for reader feedback in a newsletter is a good way to build your community and to add content to the publication.  It not only lets you know what the readers are responding to in your newsletter but it encourages reader participation and people, whether they admit it or not, like to see their name in print.  </p>
<p>A simple feedback form occasionally included in the newsletter or a more consistent ‘Dear Abby’ type column where readers ask questions and you (as the expert) answer them, is the easiest way to include this feature into your publication.</p>
<p>6.	AN OFFER  </p>
<p>Besides endearing your clients and prospects to you and your company, the main purpose of an E-Newsletter is to build your business or in other words, SELL.</p>
<p>Don’t let a single issue go by without some kind of offer; a click through to your web site, a coupon, a new product for sale in your store or on your website, an inside sale.  </p>
<p>Tie the offer in to your theme and with a good headline, you have a sure hit!  Let’s go back to our very first headline “10 Ways To Increase Your Portfolio Overnight.”  Let’s assume that the newsletter is from a team of financial advisors.  </p>
<p>The broad theme is increasing your portfolio; let’s assume that one of the methods of increasing it is to invest in pharmaceuticals.  The offer might be a seminar/webinar/teleseminar on investing in pharmaceuticals.  The options are endless to present this product. </p>
<p> Basic clicks through to your website for more information, a ‘click here to register’ type of option, or a registration form right in the newsletter are just some of the possibilities.  </p>
<p>7.	LINK TO YOUR WEBSITE</p>
<p>Again, the reason for your newsletter is to sell your product or service.  If you don’t have at least one link to your website then you’re not giving the newsletter the chance to do its job.  </p>
<p>If you don’t have a website-GET ONE!</p>
<p>No matter what your business, a web presence is a necessity for your business to grow and a courtesy to your clients.  From basic business information like hours and staff information to newsletter archives and products, a website gives your customers a place to go when they’re not with you.  To put it simply, a web presence expands and embraces your customer community and it provides one more way to build your current client base.</p>
<p>Links to your website in your newsletter provide not only a tool to sell but they’re also great tools for realizing the effectiveness of your website.   They’re measurable.  </p>
<p>8.	VIRAL MARKETING</p>
<p>Viral marketing is a term used by marketing specialists which simply means encouraging current customers and prospects to share your message with their colleagues and friends.</p>
<p>Viral Marketing is FREE FOR YOU.  A simple message consistently included in each and every newsletter, preferably in the same place each time, that encourages recipients to forward your newsletter to friends, family, and colleagues is all you need.  The bonus is that there is an implied endorsement of your services to recipients of your forwarded newsletter.</p>
<p>9.	AN OPT-OUT</p>
<p>While an E-Newsletter is a great source for building your opt-in database, you MUST provide your recipients an option to opt-out.  No one likes to be trapped into receiving an unwanted e-mail.  </p>
<p>A simple “Click here to unsubscribe” will suffice.  </p>
<p>Be sure to make good on all opt-out requests to avoid angering and alienating clients and prospects.  </p>
<p>10.	 SIGNATURE</p>
<p>An E-Newsletter signature isn’t your signed name at the bottom of each publication, though it can be.  In direct mail, a signature is your company information and a possible disclaimer listed at the bottom of the page.  Think ‘footer’, if you’re familiar with word processing.  A signature could look something like this:</p>

2.	Ease of use.  If the reader prints out the newsletter then your contact information is readily available.<br />
3.	Professional appearance.<br />
4.	Another opportunity for your client/prospect to contact you by clicking on your web link or e-mail link.<br />
5.	Possible legal protection.  </p>
<p>There are an abundance of tips to improve the effectiveness of your E-Newsletter but the 10 basics I’ve highlighted are vital to produce an effective, quality, marketing E-Newsletter that your readers will value and enjoy and your business will prosper from.</p>

There is so very much to know and most people who start their own businesses really don’t know how to create, maximize and leverage their online presence.</p>
<p>I will give you just a summary of what I’ve learned over the past year from reading, masterminding and coaching. I know I have only scratched the surface but if I can in any way cut down on your learning curve by sharing the things I’ve already learned, then that’s what I want to do.</p>
<p>Niche Marketing</p>
<p>This is the first thing you learn when creating an online presence. It’s about narrowing your focus. It is not possible to be all things to all people and when you try, you end up watering down your message and in essence, being nothing to no one. This probably was the hardest lesson I learned. I fought the whole niche marketing idea because I believed that my niche was choice theory and I know choice theory applied to every possible life situation. While I still believe that this is true, I need to focus my marketing efforts on a much more specific and targeted niche. While I am still refining this, I have decided to market to two basic niches. The first is small to midsize companies who are interested in creating, inspiring and leveraging diversity in the workforce and the second is managers interested in learning Empowered Leadership to increase production, improve quality and reduce employee turnover.</p>
<p>What is your niche? You know you have a good one if you can identify how to find them. You need to know what they read, what entertainment they gravitate toward, and what groups they belong to. It is your goal to ultimately obtain a mailing list or email list to be able to market to your niche. If you can obtain a list, then you have a well-narrowed niche.</p>
<p>Creating a List</p>
<p>This is perhaps the most important asset to an online business—the email list of potential customers and prospects. When doing business online, it is critically important to capture prospects&#8217; email opt-in addresses so you can begin to market to them. The best way to get people to give you their email address is to offer them something compelling. This is intricately tied to your niche. Find out something they are looking for—create a giveaway product in exchange for getting their email address. You can see how critical it is to have correctly identified your niche market because if you offer a list of cat owner’s information on how to train their dogs, you can see how that might not entice them to provide you with their email address. It must be information they are hungry for.</p>
<p>The opt-in part is also important. You can’t just go add people’s email addresses to your mailing list. That is considered spamming. They must have the opportunity to opt-in, as well as the opportunity to remove their address from your database. Don’t ruin your business before it gets started by tainting your reputation unnecessarily.</p>
<p>Sales Letters</p>
<p>Sales letters are very important. If there is one thing I’d like to outsource, it would be sales letters. They are not fun for me to do but they may be fun for you. There are several things to be considered in a sales letter. First of all, research shows that the longer a sales letter is the better. It must have a captivating title. It must be filled with information about WIIFM—What’s In It For Me, meaning your readers or potential customers. This is again tied to the first point about niche marketing. Your sales letter will be most effective when you can write as if you know the mind of the reader. You must understand their pain or speak to a goal they have. How can you be specific enough if you haven’t narrowed your niche? You can’t.</p>
<p>The letter should be crafted with both the skimming reader and the detail reader in mind. This means making main points subheadings so the person who skims can get the general idea of what you are talking about just by skimming the headings. However, include sufficient detail to convince the person who is interested in lots of facts and statistics. You don’t want to write your letter with only one group in mind because then you will lose out on the possibility of selling to the group you omitted.</p>
<p>Create products and services your niche is hungry for and then tell them why they must have your product to either solve their problem or help them become more successful.</p>
<p>Sales letters must have an urgent call to action. Create some type of advantage for those who act NOW. Research shows that even if a person is interested in what you are offering, if they don’t act as they are reading your letter and decide to wait for another day, they never come back to it. Get them to act now by making it worth their while. You can even offer an extra incentive for the first 20 people who respond. It’s up to you.</p>
<p>Articles</p>
<p>Writing articles is a tremendous way to get your name out there to the general public. I write at least two articles each month. I used to have my virtual assistant submit each one to online article banks individually. Now, for $100, I submit my article to I-Snare and they do the submitting for me. They will submit 100 articles for my $100 which is much more cost-effective than having to pay my assistant to do it.</p>
<p>The purpose of writing is to help readers get to know you and what you have to offer. When you write, you are not necessarily trying to sell something—you are basically providing useful information, just like this article does. And you get to include a bio box at the end with a link back to your website home page, a product page or a sales letter.
