<p>The secret isn&#8217;t some magic trick or tool. But your Internet marketing is just shooting into the dark if you don&#8217;t know the needs that lead people to buy and how to focus your copywriting to tap those needs.</p>
<p>Two main needs drive all people no matter what the demographic: 1) a desire to expand their world and become more than what they are, and 2) a desire for safety. These needs conflict: the desire to grow leads us to head out into the unknown; self-protection leads us to circle the wagons and dig in against unknown dangers.</p>
<p>Each person strikes their own balance between these two contradictory needs. Understanding the way that different personality types balance these needs is the key to effective copywriting for them.</p>
<p>Methodical Personality Type</p>
<p>The methodical personality type balances strongly toward safety. They need facts, lots of details, to assure themselves that they are making the safest, most logical choice. Make no mistake, methodical personality types decide to buy based on their emotions like everyone else, but they feel a need to back up their desire to buy with sound intellectual arguments.</p>
<p>To get them to buy, your copywriting needs to help them narrow their choices. Avoid giving them too many options. They easily get lost trying to find the best option among a series of equals.</p>
<p>One option to offer, though, is between your plain product at a cheaper price or a more expensive price with lots of additional features. Methodical thinkers are much more likely to choose the more expensive version because it reinforces their image of being a wise shopper. And it changes their decision from deciding between buying or not buying into deciding between buying a more valuable deal or a less expensive offer. But either way, their decision gives you a sale.</p>
<p>Give them solid reasons to buy and buy now. Lead them through your sales process in an easy and non-threatening way. Give them the details they need to make themselves feel that they made a rational decision. They want their purchases to be well-reasoned and risk-free, and want to see themselves as smart shoppers.</p>
<p>Competitive Personality Type</p>
<p>The competitive personality type is less averse to risk, but still needs to feel that their purchase reaffirms the way they see themselves. They, too, consider facts in making their purchase, but rely more on gut feelings of how well the purchase puts them ahead of where they were.</p>
<p>The key to copywriting for this personality type is to recognize their need to see the way they define themselves reflected in what they buy. Recognize what types of self-images your product reflects and sprinkle your sales copy with words and phrases that help your competitive types see your product reinforce their self-image.</p>
<p>Cast a wide enough net in fitting your product&#8217;s image to theirs, but don&#8217;t try to cover every possible self image or you&#8217;ll get too generic to appeal to any of them.</p>
<p>Gregarious Personality Type</p>
<p>The gregarious personality type seeks to feel connected to those around them. They are more willing to trust, more willing to venture into the unknown, but are hesitant to assume the full risk until others have proven that the path is safe. They respond especially well to copywriting that shows how your product has benefited others.</p>
<p>Catch their attention by talking about positive results that others have experienced. Testimonials of satisfied customers or pictures that show happy people enjoying your product also are important. Make sure your copywriting provides them with evidence that others have found your product worthwhile. They&#8217;ll feel more comfortable taking their own risk with it.</p>
<p>Spontaneous Personality Type</p>
<p>The spontaneous personality type is the most open to exploration. They are the trend-setters, the early adopters, who blaze the trail for everyone else. They will take risks. But not unless you offer to fill the chief need for something better, something that will let them to grow beyond what they are.</p>
<p>Surprise them. Intrigue them with the unexpected and they&#8217;ll make that leap of faith with you. Present them with the boring old status quo approach and they&#8217;ll move on to something more intriguing.</p>
<p>Understanding what drives these four different types of customers is essential to copywriting effectively for them. In copywriting, as in clothing, one size most definitely does not fit all.</p>

<p>- Which target consumers whom we can reach, hold a viable potential to buy whatever we intend to sell?</p>
<p>- What is the offer (the entire marketing mix) we will be presenting to these consumers in order to appeal to them and thus realize the said potential, given their alternatives?</p>
<p>You must not think of these as two separate questions but rather as two parts of the same idea. Let me clarify. What are &#8220;target consumers with a potential to buy&#8221;? These are consumers (a sizeable enough group with buying power) likely to desire what you are offering. Why would they want it? That is the potential that you are supposed to identify. There may be several reasons. For example, maybe they are not consumers of your kind of product yet, however, they might be if something happens, or if they are exposed to a certain message. It could be that they have special needs or preferences, which up until today were not catered to by any of your competitors&#8217; offers (and don&#8217;t forget that psychological, social, aesthetic needs are real needs). Maybe they are bored with what they routinely buy. When you identify such a situation, you know that the potential is there.</p>
<p>Identifying potential is only the initial stage of your mission, of course. Your strategy would also have to include something that you are going to offer these consumers that might improve their situation in a certain way, solve a problem, give them more than what they already get for the same price, or open new opportunities for them. In short, something that will motivate them to buy from you and thus materialize the potential.</p>
<p>The &#8216;Marketing Scenario&#8217; is a synopsis of the logic of your marketing strategy. In the same breath, it also enables you to make sure that that logic really works. The &#8216;Marketing Scenario&#8217; translates the &#8216;Marketing Strategy&#8217; to simple everyday language. How will it happen in reality? How will the materialization of marketing goals occur? I don&#8217;t know whether or not you have already sunk in this fact, but marketing goals are achieved through customer acts. So, let&#8217;s assume that we install a webcam with enhanced psychological insight capabilities inside the market and that it captures the materialization of our marketing plan, one purchase after another. </p>
<p>What is the &#8216;Marketing Scenario&#8217;?</p>
<p>The &#8216;Marketing Scenario&#8217; is an amazingly simple tool to use: Only four questions. Are you jotting this down?</p>
<p>1. Who are the people who we believe have the potential of buying what we intend to sell? Yes, these are the same people we so often refer to as the &#8216;Target Consumers&#8217;. First, we must define our targets. What do these people have in common that makes them probable prospects (in the sense that they are likely to be particularly interested in our offer)? We could use demographic, socioeconomic, psychographic, as well as lifestyle descriptions. Note that at times, we target not a specific group but a wide almost indefinable group of people in a specific mood, a specific situation, or a specific need or state.<br />
Make room for another possibility. You can target not a defined group of consumers but rather a state of need/desire or a consumption context shared by many diverse consumers at one time or another.</p>
<p>2. What precisely should they be doing (that they are not doing already and will probably not do if we will not intervene), that would direct them to eventually choose our brand specifically? It is, by the way, the first and only objective of branding. What do they have to do so that your marketing plan will materialize (even before the actual purchase)? Do they have to go somewhere? To call? To agree to meet your salesperson? To stop and pick out your product from the shelf? Which activity, which does not occur today, would lead them in the correct path on the way to buying?</p>
<p>3. What is the sound reason that should motivate them to change their behavioral inertia? How will they benefit from that change? Why would you, in their place, buy what you are offering? You can think of it as your differentiating factor (what makes you differentially better?), or as your competitive advantage (what makes you comparatively better?), according to your preference. What could make their situation better compared to their current standing and to the other options available to them in the market?</p>
<p>4. How exactly will they extract the benefit (that which answers question 3) according to your marketing plan? That is not a repeat question. Notice that the third question dealt with the &#8216;why&#8217; of the target consumer&#8217;s planned motivation, and now, we are trying to understand the &#8216;how&#8217; of your marketing plan. How are you planning to provide the benefit defined in the answer to question 3? If, for instance, you said before that you are making something more accessible, easy or comfortable for them, now explain how it will become more accessible, easy or comfortable, due to you product. </p>

To run a successful email marketing campaign, you need to monitor and understand email statistics such as Open Rate, Click-Through Rate (CTR), Bounce Back rate etc. Understanding these metrics will allow you to improve your email marketing campaign and achieve better results.</p>
<p>1. Basic Email Metrics you should evaluate in each email campaign:</p>
<p>Open Rate – that is the total number of emails opened (in HTML format) divided by total emails delivered/distributed.</p>
<p>Click-Thru Rate (CTR) – calculated as the number of unique clicks on links in the email divided by the number of emails opened. It basically means how many people interacted with your email.</p>
<p>Bounce Rate – represents the total number of emails that were not delivered and bounced back. There are several reason why the email was rejected such as the email address is no longer valid, a server filtered the email out, or the recipient’s mailbox was full and over quota.</p>
<p>Based on your unique email marketing campaigns objectives, you can measure more advanced statistics such as:</p>
<p>- Number of Emails Open based on Region/Country<br />
- Number of Click-Thru based on Region/Country<br />
- Number of Sales based on Region/Country/referring URL<br />
- Conversion (Click to Sales) Rate<br />
- Total Revenue per campaign<br />
- Return on Investment (ROI) per campaign</p>
<p>2. What metrics you should focus on?</p>
<p>Well, this really depends on your campaigns objectives. Open rate is a very important indicator to some extent however to get a better picture of your campaign performance, it should be analyzed in combination with other metrics &#8211; such as click through rate (CTR) and click to action rate (conversion rate). </p>
<p>Why is that? Because CTR and conversion rate are able to tell you how many recipients took an action you wanted them to take, such as purchased your product, signed up to your newsletter, downloaded the whitepaper etc. Whereas the open rate will only tell you how many people read your email. So in order to measure the effectiveness of your message, you need to go beyond the open rate down to the action level.</p>
<p>3. How to boost the Click-Through Rate (CTR)?</p>
<p>Savvy email marketers not only want to get the email opened and read but also want to know how many people clicked through (measured by CTR) and they want this number to be as high as possible. There are few key points in each email you should review because they critically influence the open rate and CTR. Those are:</p>
<p>Subject Line and Greeting:<br />
Make you subject line attractive. Subject line is one of the most important factors that may affect your email campaign results. However, please do not over &#8220;optimize&#8221; your subject line otherwise it may look like spam email and the client could delete it without opening it. Keep the subject line short and specific, and if possible address the subscriber by his/her name. </p>
<p>Compelling Offer:</p>
<p>It should be obvious from the first paragraph what you offer as well as why the offer is important to the recipient and how he/she can benefit from it. The first paragraph should grab the attention so don&#8217;t write it too long. Include your offer on top of your email and make your offer attractive to the recipient (discount and free offers usually make users to click).</p>
<p>Call-for-action:<br />
Always include &#8220;call-for-action&#8221; button or link to instruct the user to click for more details. </p>
<p>Spam issue:<br />
&#8220;Spam&#8221; issue may affect your successful open rate tremendously. Most of the ISP and hosting companies have implemented the &#8220;spam filter&#8221; that can filter out suspected spam emails. Please try to avoid using any common suspected spam words such as &#8220;free offer&#8221;, &#8220;money&#8221;, &#8220;30 day guarantee&#8221;, &#8220;free trial&#8221;. </p>
