Multilevel marketing otherwise known as (MLM) is an online business structure where products are marketed directly to consumers by sales representatives known as distributors. These distributors earn an income based on the amount of products they sell for their parent company, (Think Avon, Amway, Melaleuca, Mary Kay and tons of others) as well as the product sales of the distributors whom they have personally recruited to the multilevel marketing company.

Any new distributor they personally recruit, is placed into what is called their down line, MLM sales reps/distributors do not receive a salary. Their income is based on commissions and/or bonuses given; no salary is given. So an MLM distributor can also be described as an online “commission sales person”. Think, (Real Estate sales people, Vehicle sales men and women, Door To Door sales people in the real world,) same thing just online.

However while many multi-level marketing companies like those mentioned above are legitimate, MLM companies, the structure of MLM marketing closely resembles the structure of what is known as a pyramid scheme. Now Pyramid schemes are illegal in most countries as they are set up to purposefully rip people of by doing business the way they do, so it is very important to recognise the differences between these two different business models. One (MLM) is a proven successful method of making money online, The other (a pyramid scheme) is a proven successful method of ripping people off.

So the moral is do your home work on the company before you go signing up to any MLM company. Look at How long they have been in business, who is in charge of the company and what business experience those people may have, how financial is the company and what is its focus, what sort of products are they selling, are the products actually beneficial to the people that buy them, how much will you have to outlay per month on that companies products etc. Also check the credentials of anyone endorsing the company’s products. You can find out all this information with a quick Google search.

One very quick way of sorting out the cons from the good ones is to check and see if their focus is on selling the products or recruiting people. Recruiting people should be the last on the list, the main aim of the company should be on selling the products it makes, if it is not, say thanks but no thanks.

There are a lot of reputable MLM companies around that do sell great products and have done for years, just be careful when selecting the one you want to work with. You can earn extra income from a MLM company however they are not a good choice for those that are low on funds and need extra cash now, they are more a long term residual income opportunity precisely because they are one of the more expensive ways to earn an income online.

Are you finding that your industrial email marketing isn’t exactly delivering the results you were expecting? You expend your best efforts, maybe even hire outside experts to help you execute – but your response rate is still pitifully low (that would be below 10% in a manufacturing company.) If you can relate, read on for some tips that can help improve your email marketing campaigns.

Make your subject line priority #1: The subject line of your email is probably THE most important key to a successful campaign. If the subject line doesn’t compel the reader to open your email, you lose. You’ve got no more than 50 characters to hook them so Include as much important and relevant information in your subject line as possible. For instance, if your email contains a special offer, make sure the offer is explicitly spelled out in the subject line. Example: “20% Discount on Safety Services – Today Only”.

Brian Clark, founder of Copyblogger Media suggests trying to get four fundamentals into your simple and direct subject line.

* Useful: Is the promised message valuable to the reader?
* Ultra-specific: Does the reader know what’s being promised?
* Unique: Is the promised message compelling and remarkable?
* Urgent: Does the reader feel the need to read now?

Break out your lists: Instead of sending every email to every address in your email database, try drilling down and segmenting specific groups to receive information that will be more useful or pertinent to them, or that has the greatest chance of a response. At the most basic level, segment current customers from prospects. Get creative, and experiment. The more you try to address very specific, individual requirements and interests, the better your response rate.

Make your content relevant: This may seem like overstating the obvious, but you’d be surprised how often the content of an email broadcast is nothing more than a print ad plastered into an email. Does the content of your email somehow provide value, or is it “all about me?” (your company.) You must continually put yourself in the position of your email recipients and think about what would convince them to open and act on your email. Focus more on how your products or company can ease their pain. Keep it short, and don’t bore the reader with too much content. If there’s more to be said, give them a link with the option to click over to a “Read More” page. The whole point of the email is to get the person to take the next step. What do you want that to be, and how do you convince them to do it?

Be vigilant about keeping your email list clean: Regardless of how you’ve populated your initial email list, this will be an ongoing, never-ending process – and is crucial to the success of your campaigns. Having a list that contains dead email addresses can lead to spam complaints, hard bounce-backs, (an e-mail that has bounced back to the sender undelivered without having been accepted by the recipient’s mail server) “unknowns” (non-responders) and spam traps (software filters that block e-mail addresses that are known to send spam.) If these factors continue, they can ruin your email reputation and prevent your emails from getting through to your recipients. The best email list is one that has been populated over time by the recipients themselves, by “opting” to receive information from your company (building an email list is another whole article in itself.) If you’re just starting with email marketing, chances are good you don’t have that list yet. Use a good email service provider (ESP) that provides assistance and analytics about which email addresses are no longer in use and which emails bounce back, and then delete. After a recipient has failed to open a number of your emails, segment them out into a “never open” list. If the contact seems worthy of the effort, do a little digging to try and understand how you can tailor your message more specifically to that person’s needs, and try again. If THAT tactic is unsuccessful and you know this person is a perfect target, maybe it’s time to send a postcard through snail mail with an incentive to respond. Don’t forget all your other marketing options and rely on email as the magic bullet. You can also go to LinkedIn. Doing this list housekeeping will keep your list clean and improve your email deliverability.

If you can afford a marketing automation tool, PERSONALIZE: I don’t mean addressing the email with “Dear John Doe.” When I say personalization, I mean the email is coming from the regional manager, account manager, inside sales person, or whomever will be interacting the most with the email recipient. Automating the process and making the emails always come from that one main contact person can increase your email response rate by 4 times. Another way to personalize is to write your copy as if you know exactly what they do and how you can solve their problems. Example: your opening line may be: “As a refinery reliability manager, we know that too many out of service pumps can keep you up at night.”

Timing isn’t everything but needs consideration: Use common sense and experiment. When Marketects sends an email for an industrial client, we avoid sending out the email early in the morning. When someone comes to their desk first thing in the morning, your email is competing with all the other automated emails that came in overnight, along with early morning meetings, urgent situations, co-workers wandering in, etc. If you send too late in the afternoon, your recipient may have already left the office – which means your email will then be competing again with the next morning’s emails. For an industrial email campaign, I recommend sending emails right before the lunch hour begins when many people are checking emails (11:00), or mid-afternoon – no later than 3:00. Consider your specific audience’s habits, and then experiment to see which times pull the best numbers.

Follow trends and promote trending products and products related to trending topics. You will get more traffic, more clicks and more potential buyers if you promote trending products that people want at the moment! Be among the first and offer the best solutions to problems.

I recommend you to use Google Trends and Google Insight for Search to explore the trending topics. With Google Insight for Search you can get the picture on what the most people are searching for at the moment and reduce this info by only selecting the stats for Product Search. This will tell you which products to promote and what’s the hottest one at the moment. With some SEO and good promotion you can really make a lot of sales promoting popular stuff. Try it!

2. Promote Bestselling products

Just like the trending products, bestselling products should also be your goal if you want to increase the number of your sales. Find out what people are buying the most on Amazon and promote some of these products yourself. You can explore the Bestselling products, Most Wished products, Most Gifted products etc. Check out Amazon Best Sellers, choose your category and find out what are the bestselling products in your field of interest.

3. Use Widgets and Banners

Add some widgets and banners to your blog or website and promote some Amazon products. You can get a lot of different widgets and banners in you Amazon Associates account and simply add them to your blog. Add them to your sidebar, posts of add them to the specific posts that cover the related products.

I will write more about banners and widgets for those using Amazon Associates in the future. But for now, let me just say that product links and product banners work best! Also consider Amazon Search widget and Carousel widget. More about them in the coming posts.

4. Join Squidoo and HubPages

Squidoo and HubPages are two great writing communities that allow you to make money online with writing and affiliate marketing. They’re both AdSense revenue sharing sites, but beside AdSense you can also make money selling and promoting Amazon products with your Amazon Associates ID. You can use these two sites for promoting your main articles on your own blog or you can create unique content on HubPages and Squidoo for specific products and sell them there. What so great about them is that they’re well established websites with a lot of users and traffic. You’ll certainly get more attention and potential buyers there than on your blog if you’re at the beginning of your blogging path.

Be helpful, create and write good description of the products you’re promoting. You’ll get links from other member and traffic in sales will come next. I really recommend you to try Squidoo and HubPages to increase your earnings with Amazon Associates. I find them really useful and great and I really increased my sales and earnings with the help of these two sites.

5. Choose your Niche

The last but not the list are niches. With a lot of competition out there you can’t expect to rank high in search engines if you’re promoting and selling stuff like books, computers, toys or music. Instead of choosing major topics try to dig deeper and choose more specific topics and products. Instead of selling computers sell Laptop Computers -> Acer Laptops. Then go further and sell just Acer AS5253-BZ684 15.6-Inch Laptop. This will lower your competition, improve your rankings and increase your potential sales.

Choose the niche that is popular and sells nice but don’t forget to put some you in it! If you don’t like bikes then don’t try to promote them! If you don’t like Harry Potter then don’t write about your favorite Harry Potter books and recommend them to others. People will eventually see how much passionate are you about the products you’re promoting so promote what you really experiences, love and recommend. If you love the product you can write some good recommendations and detailed descriptions. If you can write good recommendations than people will start to trust you because they’ll see that you know what you’re talking about. And when you gain trust, you gan make sales. Write for people and not for money!
